#uStats — Movie Monday, Top Box Office Hits, July 24 - 26, 2015
With the box office revenue for the top 5 flicks down by over 35% from last week, we can only assume that tempting temperatures and beautiful beaches were to blame. Even still, the biggest moneymakers were able to bring in $104.6MM, and increase audience interactivity on social despite the decline in dividends.
After spending more than 6 weeks as two Hollywood's hottest cash cows, Jurassic World and Inside Out were finally dethroned by newcomers Pixels and Southpaw to join Minions, Ant-Man and Trainwreck at the top. However as always, we wanted to know who caused more conversations on Facebook and Twitter. Here's what we found.
The Social Totals
Pixels' engagement volume was out of this world, declaring war on the other films with 33.8K likes, shares, comments, retweets and favorites for a 38.5% market share. While the Minions slipped to the runner up spot this week, it still successfully dominated social with 23.6K engagements and a 26.9% market share.
When it comes to seeing just how much each movie's audience is plugged into their content, we look to see how total engagements extend across their fans and followers. In this category, Pixels continues to defend and attack, rallying its audience to generate 294.4 engagements per 1K users. Southpaw's content was also a knockout among fans, winning 139.2 engagements per 1K users to secure second place.
