#uStats — Movie Monday, Top Box Office Hits, Aug 21 - Aug 23, 2015
Action and drama dominated the silver screen this past weekend, as audiences across the country looked for their 2 hour fix of adrenaline-pumping suspense. NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton continued its reign over the box office charts, more than doubling the revenue of the #2 movie for the second week in a row. All in all, the top 5 flicks did very well, pulling in a collective cool $64.7MM. But as always, we're interested in which movies got fingers fidgeting the most on social media. So we looked at the social pages of Straight Outta Compton, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Sinister 2, Hitman: Agent 47 and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. to sort out the social story. Here's what we found.
The Social Totals
While the top performing movies were able to generate 308.3K all together, there was a clear front runner. The gritty tell all story of Straight Outta Compton made the most music on Facebook and Twitter, producing 261.3K engagements for an impressive 84.7% engagement market share (more than NINE times the amount as the movie in second place). Sinister 2 was also able to scare up some decent engagement, accumulating 28.4K engagements for a 9.2% market share.
Shifting focus to which film had the most tuned-in audience regardless of size, Hitman: Agent 47 's following broke away from the rest, joining the hunt with 451.0 engagements per 1K users. Sinister 2 also did well in this category, sucking its audience into the suspense with 307.1 engagements per 1K users.
