#uStats — Movie Monday, Top Box Office Hits, Aug 28 - Aug 31, 2015
Drama and action continued to dominate the box office, as newcomers War Room and No Escape replaced The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Hitman: Agent 47 in the coveted club of most monied movies. Straight Outta Compton continued to steal the spotlight with the most ticket sales, generating $13.2MM of the $45.5MM brought in by the top five grossing flicks of the weekend. However when we analyzed the Facebook and Twitter pages for these titles, a different story emerges on social media. Here's what we found.
The Social Totals
People had a lot to say about the family struggles in War Room, who conquered the socialverse with 279.7K engagements for an impressive 72.9% market share. Don't count Straight Outta Compton as out of the running quite yet however, taking the number two spot with 98.2K engagements for a 25.6% market share.
Generating a high volume of engagements is great, but it's only half the story. We also like to look at how those likes, comments, shares, retweets and favorites are spread across the audience size to gauge just how reactive they are overall. War Room also came out on top in this category, making an astonishing amount of new family ties with 1,702.9 engagements per 1k users—more than seven times the amount as the runner up. No Escape certainly avoided an unresponsive audience, coming in second place with 228.7 engagements per 1k users.
