#uStats — Movie Monday, Top Box Office Hits, Oct 2-4, 2015
After a 14 day decline in engagements, this weekend's top 5 films finally got fingers clicking again on social media, increasing activity by 23.1% compared to the previous week. And, with revenue up 14.4%, it would seem newcomers The Martian and Sicario lived up to the much anticipated hype. The two movies join Hotel Transylvania 2, The Intern and Maze Runner: Scorch Trials to round out the top ticket producers, reeling in $119.4MM in all. However as we dig into Facebook and Twitter engagement, we wanted to know which found themselves on the top of the social ladder, and which had a few more rungs to climb.
The Social Totals
Hotel Transylvania 2 upgraded its presence from the number four spot to number one in terms of engagement volume, checking in at 51.9K likes, comments, shares, retweets and favorites for a 37.9% market share. The Martian also managed to ensure social interactions took off, accumulating 33.3K engagements for a 24.4% market share.
Having a high volume of interactions is one thing, but that doesn't necessarily mean your audience is also highly engaged. When it comes to active audiences, The Martian dethroned The Intern with an out of this world reaction level with 310.8 engagements per users. Don't completely count out The Intern however, as the film's content produced 284.8 engagements per users to claim the runner up spot.
