For the second year in a row, Unified is celebrating the men and women who are actively striving toward gender equality. The truth is, when women are supported at work, there are benefits for everyone—including wages. On this special night, we will honor the influencers, mentors, and role models that have consistently inspired and/or supported our mission of empowering women. Hosted at the gorgeous Midtown Terrace in NYC, The LEAD Awards will feature an award ceremony, a lively panel discussion, networking, music, hors d'oeuvres and champagne—all in the name of our theme this year: Owning It.

PANEL DISCUSSION

Working Like A Woman: The Pros & Cons Of Advising Women To “Be More Like Men” To Succeed

When one thinks of a leader, certain archetypes and/or stereotypes come to mind that can have a significant impact on how we determine who is “right” for the position. Unfortunately, this dynamic leaves many women stuck between a rock and a hard place. Whether she acts more like the archetype of the unemotional, tough male or is her authentic self and “owns it,” there’s potential for backlash. This sobering reality begs the question—should we be continuing to encourage women to “be more like men” to get ahead, and what if any, are the pros and cons of this?
